Today I read an article on Twitter @TheRoot about a black family harassed by one of the neighbors in Virginia Beach, Va. Apparently, the unnamed neighbor has been playing racist noises at this family. When they came home, the person played monkey sounds, banjo music, and the N-word. These actions started happening in 2017, and the authorities could not help.

The article says a group of people in the community came together to protest this behavior. Because of the peaceful demonstrations, the family has newfound peace. Hopefully, the equilibrium will remain.

My thoughts about this situation. There is a group of people who refuse to allow certain folks to have the freedoms the US constitution provides all of its citizens." We the people" is not supposed to be" We the people that look, think, and worship like me." In America, blood was spilled so all could be free to live the life they worked hard to obtain.

Let us treat people the way we want others to treat us. I am a black woman married to a black man with three black sons. My husband and I teach our young men to respect themselves and others. It all starts at home.
